The San Francisco 49ers earned their trip to Carolina Panthers this Sunday the hard way. They secured a tough win last weekend at Green Bay by 23-20, with Colin Kaepernick excelling with his passing and running game, coupled with the 49ers tough defence. The Panthers on the other hand, were able to rest their weary bodies last weekend, as the number 2 seeds. When the two sides clashed earlier on, in the regular season, in San Francisco, the Panthers won a defence dominated match by 10-9, illustrated by Kaepernick being held to a mere 107 yards in total. 91 yards passing and a further 16 rushing, while Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson had 2 1/2 sacks.
49ers wide receiver, Michael Crabtree didn't play in the first game between the sides, but comes into the play-off showdown on the back of a 100-yard performance last week against the Packers. Although they qualified as second seeds, the Panthers have a quarter back in Cam Newton, who has benefited from working with Mike Shula, and who has had a good season, but needs to show that he can take his game, and his team to another level, if they are truly to put themselves forward as Super Bowl champion contenders.
